Starlings and Ospreys 2010/2011
Starling - season well over.  Last November watched half million of these wonderful wee birds swarm at Gretna.  December was a no-no due to the weather. However, on 1st January when I visited they must have moved on because of the severe cold as there were only a few hundred.  How disappointed was I?  Hopefully we will see them back with a vengeance in October 2011.
Ospreys - Well into osprey season.  Couldn’t wait to watch them fishing at my favourite local haunt the Carron Valley Reservoir.  Saturday 23rd April had 6 sightings in one hour - lucky me.  One of the sightings consisted of an osprey making alarm call right above my head.  There was another osprey, which quickly moved on.  I wonder what that was all about?  Other birds included a pair of gooseanders (first time I’ve seen them on the loch), grebe, greylag geese, cormorant, mallard, small wader - unidentified, cuckoos (heard 2) and not forgetting our colony of blackheaded gulls.  There were also many little birds.  All in all a lovely relaxing time.
Isn't nature wonderful!
