Clyde Support Team
Not every volunteering opportunity with the SWT--Clyde Members Centre requires expertise in wildlife or conservation! Members who want to volunteer with the Clyde Members Centre can help in many ways. Here are just some of the volunteering opportunities you can enjoy as a member of the Clyde Support Team:
- Helping with hospitality at meetings and talks (making tea, setting out leaflets, etc.)
- Helping at fundraising events with collecting cans etc.
- Helping at publicity events (setting up stalls and handing out information ) such as Royal Highland Show, Camping and Caravanning Exhibition, Glasgow Vet School Rodeo, Reserve Open Days, etc.
- General Committee members within the Cumbernauld area
- General Committee members within East Dunbartonshire
- Train to be part of a new Response Team involved in the wildlife education of children’s groups (disclosure required.) Ongoing training and updates will be given. Occasional mornings/afternoons/evenings as required and as available.

Committee Positions
The SWT--Clyde Members Centre has some Committee positions open to the right candidates. None of these positions are short term and a real commitment is necessary.
It is not necessary to have great knowledge of wildlife or conservation – an interest is sufficient – but people skills and organizing ability ARE necessary. This is also an excellent opportunity to learn much about the environment and the politics and practicalities of conservation. There is always the advantage of meeting people of influence within the field and being able to take part in more major, HQ-led events such as Royal Highland Show, etc. For some, there is also job potential as well.
Committee members must be members of Scottish Wildlife Trust or willing to join. Ideally, they should live within the Kirkintilloch/North Lanarkshire area. Committee meetings are held monthly in Kirkintilloch at present.
Committee members are expected to attend public meetings (once a month during autumn/winter months) and help out as much as possible with other events. This is not as much as it seems and is always enjoyable!
Current Committee Positions Open:
MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY. The record-keeper of the committee and part of the Business Team. Will be responsible for sending out information packs to new members within our area and keeping details of volunteers, being able to match them to appropriate events.(e.g. those indicating willingness to “can-rattle, etc.”) Also responsible for email contact and cascading information of forthcoming events to appropriate areas. Must be dependable, computer literate, and have good organisational skills.
GENERAL COMMITTEE POSITIONS, (2) Very important. Provide general assistance either with committee marketing as the need arises, working within the Business Team ( e.g. fact finding, Googling various sources for committee assistance, liasing with groups, companies, councils, etc.) or working with Chair with general outreach work in other areas of the Members Centre Committee for SWT Clyde Members Centre. This position gives great satisfaction. We are all ordinary members who have volunteered to organise events and programmes to educate and inform on all aspects of wildlife and conservation.
Volunteering with the SWT--Clyde Members Centre is definitely VOLUNTEERING WITH A DIFFERENCE, and helps us to promote a healthier balance of nature through knowledge and hands-on conservation--not to mention providing sanctuaries for those who visit our wildlife reserves!
